Reichenbach - Feed and labour costs viewed as the biggest challenges
The number of farms in German that have 1,300 cows or more is relatively low at around 300. And while there are always more farms that achieve this size, many herds reach their limit here. Their problem in a country like Germany with predominantly small-scale farms and high wages is not the management of the cows itself, but rather the high labour and feed costs. We visited one of the most successful large herds in Germany, the Reichenbach Agricultural Cooperative, located in Saxony in the eastern part of Germany, where we learned several interesting insights.
