Bosgoed in the Netherlands: Three Decades of Consistent Crossbreeding with Holstein-Jersey-Brown Swiss

Brown Swiss, Jersey, Fleckvieh, Montbéliarde; the use of “Dairy Breeds” on Holsteins is taking place in a variety of forms in the Netherlands. The Bosgoed family in Denekamp, close to the German city of Nordhorn, has 30 years of experience with crossbreeding. This is the story of Dutch Holstein pioneers, who have expanded their breeding strategy to include Jersey and Brown Swiss, for economic reasons. The result: a component-rich herd with lots of longevity, and – to the delight of the Bosgoed family – popular sires for the international market.
